Dr. David Manno
Dr. David Manno is the owner and chief physician at Midwest Alternative Treatment Clinic. He has been practicing medicine for the past 22 years as an Emergency Medicine (ER) physician. In addition to running Midwest Alternative Treatment clinic, he is an ER doctor at Rush Oak Park Hospital. Dr. Manno earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester. He completed medical school and his residency at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Ketamine is a new treatment option for mental health. Mental health is a huge part of an ER doctor’s work. Nearly every day there’s a patient with a mental health issue Dr. Manno treats in the emergency room. Diagnoses range from anxiety, panic attack, depression, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, or manic episodes of bipolar disorder. Treating a patient with a mental health condition without being able to treat that condition was very frustrating for Dr. Manno (we have meds to treat them; we give meds to stabilize them only, then send them to a psychiatric facility; my frustration comes from the patients never really getting better; just trying to maintain)
As an ER doctor Dr. Manno has administered ketamine to hundreds of patients safely and effectively. Once he learned of ketamine’s possibilities to improve mental health, his research led him to open Midwest Alternative Treatment Clinic so he can help patients with mental health conditions.
Dr. Manno was originally drawn to medicine because it’s so challenging, vast and complex. “Medicine is the biggest mental challenge you’ll ever have. I can always learn something new, and relearn things I thought were true. Then when you bring your brain to the bedside, you interface with humans, and synthesize a way to make the patient feel better. That’s why ketamine is so amazing. Its science is fascinating, and its potential to improve lives is incredible.”
Dr. Manno is a member of the American Society of Ketamine Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association. He’s board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Manno lives in River Forest, IL with his wife and two daughters. When he’s not in the ER or Midwest Alternative Treatment Clinic, he enjoys art, photography, and music.
